Bethel, AK – June 16, 2013 – Vitus Marine’s latest fleet addition is the Bethel, AK based tug CHENA. Purchased in late 2012, it has just been launched after extensive rebuilding. The tug is specifically designed to operate in the shallow tributaries of the Kuskokwim River. Operations Manager Stacey Smith says “With an operating draft of less than three feet the vessel can safely take fuel barges into communities along the Kuskokwim even when the river is at its lowest stages. This tug allows Vitus to operate continuously through our short open water season.”
