Bethel, AK – October 7, 2014  – Vitus Marine’s flagship articulating tug and barge sets handle the bulk of Alaska’s coastal deliveries.  Some locations in Western Alaska require ultra-shallow draft (under 4’) vessels.  Vitus Marine recent renovated the landing craft ITSWOOT to accommodate pushing barges in very shallow water.  CEO Mark Smith oversaw the renovations in Seward, Alaska and said “legacy military landing craft are ideally suited for Western Alaska’s shallowest river and coastal destinations where conventional ships can’t navigate and there are no developed port facilities.”

In addition, Vitus Marine recently acquired two other ultra-shallow draft vessels; the assist vessel MAC, and the tug FRANCES SNOW.  Both vessels will undergo renovation and be used to supplement the existing shallow draft fleet in serving the most remote locations in Alaska.
